ABOUT THE FARM

At Sweet Morning Farm we have been practicing minimal tillage farming since 2013 and in 2015 we switched to a completely no-till, permanent bed system.  We aim to promote natural soil building processes by creating conditions which are highly favorable to microorganisms, fungi, and earthworms.  The guiding principles we follow are to never disturb the soil, keep plants and their roots in the ground whenever possible, and to keep the soil covered using mulch and dense plantings.  Our soil's fertility comes completely from natural products like manure, hay, compost, and leaves.  We produce as much of these ourselves as we can and try to use them in minimally processed forms.  Through these practices, we can literally see and feel our soil improve, and find we are producing a greater abundance of healthier and better tasting crops.  Farming is an endless learning process, and our growing systems continue to evolve as we realize how little we know and how little we can control.  We are eternally grateful for the grace and forgiveness through which nature provides in spite of our ignorance and shortcomings.
